Benedict is the US Correspondent for news.com.au, Australia’s most read news website, based in New York City since 2022. He writes stories, produces videos, edits the website and sorts out social.
When Australians wake up and read news.com.au , they’re probably looking at something Benedict wrote in the US while they were asleep.
In 2018, Benedict won the Australian Kennedy Award for environmental journalism reporting on a spate of crashes involving shoddily maintained trucks transporting waste across state borders in order to benefit from tax loopholes.
In 2020, he was nominated for a Kennedy Award for his reporting on events following the Sydney Black Lives Matter rally, breaking the news and taking pictures of protesters being tear gassed by police. He has been nominated for a number of awards for his articles on the LGBTI community.
He has been also a commentator on TV and radio.
Prior to news.com.au, Benedict was assistant editor at the Star Observer, Australia’s most read LGBTI news source. He has freelanced for publications in Australia and the UK and worked in corporate communications for both public and private sector organisations.
Benedict has volunteered for organisations including NewFest, NYC’s queer film festival, Sydney Mardi Gras and founded a campaign to save London’s historic hop-on, hop-off Routemaster buses which are a symbol of the city worldwide.
